A SAD story was told to the judge and jury in the Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara murder trial, in which the accused, Hameraj Rambachan, is indicted for the murder of Rajpattie Jagroo.
Rambachan pleaded not guilty, and is being represented by attorney-at-law, Kim Kyte-John, in association with Faye Barker.
Prosecuting in the matter, are Renita Singh, in association with Dhanika Singh.
The prosecutor told the jury Friday that Rajpattie Jagroo, of 103 Zeeburg, West Coast, Demerara, lived with her two daughters, Parbattie Ramlakhan, called Sharda, and Basmattie Sewsankar, called Lily.
Parbattie had a boyfriend, who is the accused, and he was 22 in 2009. However, her mother Rajpattie did not approve of the relationship and so she broke off her relationship with the accused.
According to the prosecutor, witnesses will testify that on the night of 21st of July, 2009, Rajpattie and her other daughter Basmattie, called Lilly, went to bed after securing their home. The house had no electricity so a wall lamp was used at nights.
Lilly and her mother Rajpattie both went to sleep in their front room on the same bed.
While asleep Lilly heard a scream and she jumped up and saw Hameraj Rambachan, called Arun, on her mother’s stomach while her mother was on the bed. In his right hand was a knife that he was using to stab her mother and his left hand was over her mouth.
Lilly tried to pull her mother away but Rambachan stabbed her instead. He stabbed her on her shoulder, her right hand and head. Lilly started to scream and he ran away.
Lilly called for help and persons came and transported Rajpattie and her daughter to the hospital. Rajpattie was later pronounced dead; but her daughter Lilly, who was injured, lived to tell what happened that night to her mother at the hands of the accused.
The hearing continues tomorrow.
