Around the Courts… Frequent flyer jailed, fined for cocaine

FORTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD overseas-based Guyanese, Johall Abram Mauget was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $30,000 Friday for possession of a narcotic.

Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he pleaded guilty to having two kilogrammes 615 grammes of cocaine, on Tuesday, June 4, around 12:40 hrs while he was an outgoing passenger at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, East Bank Demerara.
Police Inspector Steven Telford, prosecuting, said the prisoner was busted just before boarding his flight to Toronto, Canada.
Mauget was taken into custody after his baggage was searched by ranks at CJIA when a suspicious object was seen in one of his suitcases, through the scanner.
Police said the convict is a frequent flyer and had been under surveillance for some time now, while staying at his local address, Lot 46 East La Penitence, Georgetown.
