Freddie Kissoon’s article should be thrown into the garbage bin

I CAME across an article written by Freddie Kissoon on Thursday, June 6, titled: “From Lion King to Mama Mia. A  night at the Theatre Guild”.

I firmly believe in freedom of the press, but how can the editor of the Kaieteur News have allowed the publishing of such an article which insults the acting capabilities of an innocent child?
We have all become accustomed to the articles written by Mr Kissoon, but he has gone too far this time.
Insulting a child on her performance? Does he have any idea how long and hard these children worked to perform for not only their peers, but for the public? Is he aware of how proud these kids were that they had the confidence and courage to get up on that stage and sing? I sat in that audience and listened as the performers’ peers cheered them on, equally, with great enthusiasm. It was touching and if I had kids, I would want them to be part of that warm and supportive environment. It made me realise that adults can learn a great deal from children.
Children grow and gain confidence through encouragement and support and from those around them. Mr. Kissoon should be ashamed of this article as it is hurtful, unkind and thoughtless. How could he mention the child’s name? I thought she was a sweet and captivating Simba. A job well done!
Being a journalist of substance comes with a great sense of dignity and the ability to be circumspect. This article could have been written differently and should have congratulated all of the young people on a job well done. This young lady deserves an apology and in the future, articles of this nature should be treated in the manner they deserve-   thrown into the garbage bin.
