A MOTOR car caught afire on Tuesday, at Irving and Anira Streets, Queenstown, Georgetown, after avoiding a collision.
It happened about 13:00 hrs and eyewitnesses said the car was heading North on Irving Street when it avoided colliding with a truck that was heading in the same direction but made a sudden turn.
The car swerved to avoid the crash and ended up in the trench between Irving Street and Vlissengen Road.
Its fuel tank began to leak and passerby heard a loud explosion, then saw smoke.
A Guyana Fire Service (GFS) tender responded promptly at the scene but had some difficulty getting water out its reservoir to douse the blaze.
Fortunately, no one from either vehicle was reportedly injured.
