THE Government, in its massive drive to educate children across the country, has constructed a modern two- storey concrete and wooden building at Wakapao in Lower Pomeroon.
The structure, erected under the Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) 2012 Capital Works Programme, will house secondary students.
The children will be provided with a conducive atmosphere in which to study.
Before the construction of the edifice, secondary students were housed in a section of the primary school.
The new school has 208 students on roll and ten teachers, catering for the catchment area that includes Wakapao, Akawini and others in the Lower Pomeroon River.
Forty-eight students from far-flung areas are housed in the Government dormitory and given free meals and comfortable accommodation.
A teacher at the secondary school said students are offered five subjects, English A and B, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics at the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) level and 18 of them are, currently, taking the tests at Charity Secondary school on Essequibo Coast.
Residents of Wakapao are thankful and loud in praise of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government for taking secondary education to their village.
