Inaugural Guinness Greatest of the Streets National Tourney launched

THE first-ever Guinness Greatest of the Streets National Tournament was officially launched yesterday in the Boardroom of Banks DIH and is set to kick off on Friday, May 24, at the Banks DIH Park Lot.

altThis tournament will feature the top two teams from Georgetown, Linden, East Coast and Bartica. The victors move on to represent Guyana in the International Tournament that will be held in St Vincent from June 21 to 23.
Guinness Brand Manager, Lee Baptiste, said, “Banks DIH is proud and thankful for the support received as we traversed through the communities. We always strive for success and this tournament is testimony that we want our supporters to ‘Reach for Greatness’ like our Guinness slogan”.
Baptiste advised the teams to be disciplined throughout the event and urged whichever team should progress to the international round to be good ambassadors of Guyana.
The Brand Manager disclosed that the first runners-up of the Petra-organised event will cart off $400 000 while second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will receive $250 000, $150 000 and $75 000 respectively.
Vying for the top prizes are Georgetown’s Leopold Street and Back Circle, Linden’s Silver Bullets and Silent Assassins, East Coast’s Plaisance and Victoria Church Yard and Bartica’s Hard Core and Millennium.
The Bartica teams were chosen from a Street Football Tournament sponsored by Banks DIH and organised by Petra during the time of the Bartica Regatta.
The competition continues on May 25 and concludes on May 27; and on both days the action will take place at the same venue.
