Councillor of the Region Two Democratic Council [RDC] Mr. Brian Basil Persaud has blasted the GT&T company for poor telephone service to Essequibians.

Speaking at the RDC meeting on Tuesday Mr. Persaud said the quality of service provided by the company in the Region is very poor and probably the worst in the country. He said the company is spending millions on jingle and song competition and can’t improve the phone service or give new land line telephones on the Essequibo Coast.
The Councillor said  there are nine established housing schemes on the Essequibo Coast and GT&T is not making any progress towards installing land line phones in the areas.Mr. Persaud said development is taking place across the Region but GT&T only seem bent on promoting cell phone services.He said residents in the housing areas are in need of land line phones so as to be connected to the internet and pointed out that hundreds of persons who have received computers from the Government OLPF programme are in need of the land line service.
Mr. Persaud said many costumers of the company are also frustrated with the poor service they are receiving. He said the phone service is suffering from technical problems whereby calls are disconnected during the height of conversation.
