THE Ministries of Education and Health, in collaboration with the Government Technical Institute, the Cheddi Jagan Dental School and the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS), hosted a ‘Health and Wellness Day’ at the Woolford Avenue, Georgetown GTI location.
The day’s programme included blood sugar and pressure testing and dental services. Females learnt about cervical and breast cancer and students and staff were also able to donate to the Blood Bank.
Health Promotion Coordinator, Ms. Dionne Brown said the two ministries have been working with schools to promote good health.
She pointed out that students are, often times, so busy and forget to check up on themselves. They, sometimes, also think that, because they are young, certain problems cannot affect them.
So, bearing that in mind, they decided to start visiting schools and, in this instance, GTI, to help students and staff maintain good health.
GTI Principal, Mr. Carl Benn said the institution always welcomes such projects and it is a timely one, because students are on study break preparing for examinations and, therefore, will have time to get their check-ups.
Some students also expressed gratitude for the services that were available to them yesterday, from 09:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs.
