Body found at Providence identified as Surinamese man

THE body of a man who was found at Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara, has been identified as Steven Rinaldo Tinnie, 28, a Surinamese national who resided at D’Urban Street, Georgetown. His fiancée had begun looking for him and she was subsequently told by the police that they had found a body fitting his description and she made a positive identification of the corpse at Lyken Funeral Parlour.

He was expected to tie the knot on June 29 to his long time sweetheart, Shamila Austin.

Tinnie’s mutilated body was discovered on April 29 lying at the side of the road minus his cell phone, wallet, pants and shoes, police said. It is believed that he was the victim of a hit and run accident and was robbed of his valuables after the accident.

The Surinamese national had gone to a friend’s party at Somerset Court, a gated community at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, and had seen that his fiancée board a taxi for home but he refused to join her.

Tinnie was expected to re-join his friends at the function on the morning of April 29 but never did.
