THE Cancer Institute (CI) of Guyana Inc. received its provisional licence yesterday, to establish and operate a health facility, oncology clinic with radiation therapy, at its Lamaha and East Streets, North Cummingsburg location. The authority was certified by the Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran and the documentation was handed over to officials of the institution at the Ministry’s Brickdam office, also in Georgetown.
From today, the CI will be offering teletherapy treatment which would be done by external beam radiation for patients with its new machine.
Prior to yesterday’s certification, CI underwent a series of inspections, procedures and investigations by the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) and local authorities.
The place where CI is located, its procedure and the fee which patients would be paying had to be included in the proposal for its establishment and the legal requirements are in keeping with the Health Facilities Act 2007, Regulations 2008, the Quality Assurance and Quality Control Environmental Aspect of the Law.
CI Consultant, Ms. Feona Lagar said she was happy to receive the licence from Minister Ramsaran and noted that the institution will be providing top class service with the friendly faces and attitudes of the staff.
