Georgetown seawall Sunday lime to be relocated : – Minister Benn

MINISTER of Public Works, Mr. Robeson Benn, has said efforts will be made to have the Sunday evening Georgetown seawall lime relocated to the area between Vlissingen Road and Camp Street. Speaking at a media briefing, in his Wight’s Lane office in the city, he said this activity has caused a number of breaches in traffic, sanitation and other regulations.
Benn said a more monitored area, in terms of disposal of garbage and other waste and the allocation of places for vending in a proper way would be provided at the new location.
The minister was at the time giving an update on the overtopping of water along the coast and the clogging of drains due to the Sunday evening activity.
He explained that his ministry would be working closely with the Mayor & City Council (M&CC) along with the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority to have this situation resolved.
The Sunday evening activity started in the late 1980s, in the Seawall Bandstand area before spreading to the Kitty Seawall, encouraging vending which contributed to a large amount of garbage that required the Works Services Group to employ a special crew.
