PPP statement on death anniversary of Satyadeow Sawh …‘His death serves to remind us of the grave intentions of those who seek to harm our nation’

YESTERDAY, April 22, 2013, marked the 7th death anniversary of former PPP Central Committee member and Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Satyadeow Sawh.

altComrade Sawh was assassinated, along with his sister (Phulmattie Persaud), brother (Rajpat Rai Sawh), and security guard (Curtis Robertson) at his Earl’s Court, LBI, home on the eventful night of April 22, 2006, by a gang of ruthless criminals at the direction of their political masters, whose latest effort at the time to destabilize our country was via a violent crime wave.
Mr. Sawh will forever be remembered for his dedication to the ideals of the People’s Progressive Party, his contribution to the agriculture sector and foreign affairs. He also played a significant role in the fight against dictatorship and the restoration of democracy through the Association of Concerned Guyanese based in Canada for which he was the President for many years.
He is also credited with laying the foundation for the improved relationship we currently share with neighbouring Venezuela, where he served as Guyana’s Ambassador from 1993 to 1996, following which he was awarded that country’s second highest honour, the Order of Francisco de Miranda (First Class).
Sash, as we all fondly referred to him, also played a significant role in promoting his religion of Hinduism and the Indian culture in the overall Guyanese cultural identity.
His legacy lives on, especially through his children and his wife Sattie Sawh, who continues to contribute to our party and the PPP/C Government.
However, while our nation eventually managed to overcome that period of instability, today we are seeing a new aspect of their campaign of instability unfolding in our National Assembly.
It is patently clear that the continuation of the opposition efforts to cut the national budget is intended to suppress our progress and development.
It is at this juncture we should reflect on the historical position that the opposition has taken on crime.
The nation will never forget when they glorified a brutal murderer by draping the national flag on his casket, when they demonized the Quick Reaction Squad, popularly referred to as the Black Clothes, because they were taking on the criminals, when they invaded the Office of the President compound and caused persons to lose their lives, when they invaded the Linden protests and again persons died, and when they inspired the Agicola protests which affected so many persons.
Their latest position has manifested itself with the APNU withholding budgetary support for the Security Sector in the National Assembly.
The death of Satyadeow Sawh serves to remind us of the grave intentions of those who seek to harm our nation and his legacy will forever show that they will never succeed.
