Time for civil society to become independent observers

TIME for the PSC, Chamber of Commerce, unions and other members of the civil society to become involved as independent observers,  if not active participants in the budget discussions.  The Guyanese public need to hear from non-politicians what is said in these negotiations and not what the parties claim was said.

This action has become necessary in order to protect the nation from serious problems, if the  report that the opposition is planning to cut $40 billion from the budget is carried out.

The opposition must clearly publicly state why these cuts are being made and what if any alternatives are suggested to prevent harming those who are to benefit from government’s proposed budget.
If necessary, civil society must undertake peaceful protest at parliament and parties’ headquarters to show their concern and alarm.
It is a pity, one could not have early local elections without party representation that would be an indication of the people’s current feelings and force a compromise and no need for an early general election that now seems inevitable.
