Laptop thief granted $100,000 bail

RONALD Boyce, 43, of Lot 53 ‘D’ Field, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple larceny before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Friday.

Particulars of the offence said, on April 11, at the Ministry of Labour, he stole, from Samantha Craig, one laptop computer valued $80,000 and one flash drive with a value of $2,000.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, told the Court, that about 12:00 hrs on Thursday, the virtual complainant left her computer on the desk along with the flash drive but, when she returned, she discovered them missing.
The Prosecutor said the defendant was acting in a suspicious manner and a subsequent search conducted in his black and red backpack yielded the articles but he claimed ownership of them.
Boyce, in his defence, alleged that a female janitor had threatened to frame him.
He was allowed $100,000 bail until May 10.
