THE Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Anna Regina Town Council is planning to hold its first ever Town Day in August. According to reports the IMC is also pushing to establish a Community Development Group where business owners and other stakeholders will be brought together to work towards cleaning and beautifying the town. Reports said the matter concerning the planning of the Town Day was discussed at the last statutory meeting of the council. Meanwhile, the formation of the Community Development Group with the business community is expected to give great support to the staging of the first ever Town Day in August.
The IMC is said to be considering the 1st and 2nd of August for the activity because Anna Regina became a town on August 1st, 1990. Councillors of the IMC will be meeting with members of the business community and other stakeholders on the 17th August at a special meeting at 09:00 am at the Town Hall to discuss the formation of the group and their input into the Essequibo Town Day 2013.
The entire Region 2 and the other administrative regions will be invited to attend and participate in Essequibo Town Day.
In addition, overseas-based Guyanese with Essequibo roots will also be invited to attend. The entire town from Three Friends to Walton Hall will be cleaned and dressed up for Town Day celebrations under a special theme to be announced later. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
