Finance Minister welcomes positive budget feedback

Budget 2013 is being well received by the general public, and Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh is pleased with the encouraging responses.

There has been a general positive response to the budget, not only by organised stakeholder groups, but also by the man in the street, he stated.
” If one were to look at in the first instance, the few that have been received from the organised stakeholder groups – let’s take the private sector organisation, or the organised workers’ union; in both of those very important categories of stakeholders, the (Private Sector) commission issued a very clear and unequivocal release just a few days ago, and so did FITUG, and in both instances those releases welcome budget 2013, as being good for Guyana, as being responsive to our current circumstances, as putting together, articulating a set of interventions to sustain growth and accelerate economic growth in our country, and continue to uplift the social condition of the people of Guyana further,” Minister Singh pointed out.
The good feedback on Budget 2013, he said, comes as no surprise.  “We (Government) were very deliberate and careful in ensuring that we assemble in the budget a set of polices, measures, interventions that will be achieved.”
Budget 2013 is not alone in this regard, as in fact the PPPC has always worked to have a long succession of budgets that have been crafted in a manner that are aimed at preserving the country’s macro-economic environment, achieve economic growth in a very hostile and unfavourable environment, and improve key social indicators.
“This is just the latest in what I would call a succession of efforts to generally achieve further achievements in the overall economic conditions of Guyana, and in the individual circumstances of Guyana,” he said.
