Once again, but not surprising, Guyana’s media professionalism has
taken another severe dent.
That well-known publishing house, the Kaieteur News, that has established a dark reputation for misrepresentation and misinformation, unparalleled anywhere, has committed another act of slander against the persons of two outstanding, eminent gentlemen of international repute – former President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, and Mr. Erik Solheim, former Minister of the Environment and International Development of Norway.
There can be no excuse on the part of this daily tabloid for this latest act, which is absolutely deliberate, spiteful, and driven by sinister motives of anti-nationalism. Led by what is now an openly, clear political agenda, for itself, and on behalf of the political opposition, this publishing house is definitely the chief media lead in its quest of trying to denigrate all the great work that the PPP/C government would have done, since 1993.
In seeking to achieve this dark objective, it has been targeting personalities within the executive, on a regular basis. Its favoured target has been the former President Jagdeo, whose stewardship as President, has seen Guyana become the economic envy of its CARICOM member states; an outstanding model for climate preservation, in addition to its established reputation as a state with a stable economy, with a record of unbroken, sustained economic growth for the past seven years.
Any media house ought to be lauding any government for such significant achievements. But not the Kaieteur News, which numerous, distorted attempts, of national development programmes, have been exposed for what they are – DANGEROUS LIES!
Any media, that ascribes slanderous lies to the person of a former president, especially, is indeed horribly dangerous in its intent. But when such is extended to the person of a former high-ranking cabinet minister of a foreign government, it is absolutely malicious and grossly disrespectful!
It underlines the desperation of that print in its bid of attempting to undermine the credibility of the state and its government.
The irony of this media house’s treacherous lies, is that both these distinguished persons have combined, not only to establish Guyana as a model centre of climate change services, for which the country is being monetarily rewarded via the GRIFF; but also in the process, of making the world a safer place, from the threat of climate excesses, for its future generations.
Finally, the Kaieteur News must be reminded again, that when the proper history of Guyana will be written, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo will be majestically represented as a President, whose unselfish and tireless efforts were honourably, readily and dutifully carried out, for and on behalf of his people, thus bringing about the monumental, qualitative life changes that have made Guyana proud as a nation; Guyanese, proud of their homeland once again; and admiration from the international community.
An unqualified apology must be demanded from the Kaieteur News.
