Touts return to bus parks after prosecution

IF this is not blatant and flagrant violation of the law, then nothing is. To date, several touts have been arrested at the East Coast, Sophia and South Ruimveldt bus parks and prosecuted, but they return after a while, as they have claimed  touting  is a very profitable occupation.
Stealing from and robbing innocent people are a profitable occupation too.
When the few ranks assigned at a specific bus park move off, the touts intensify their operations with the intent to make up for ‘dollars lost.’
In this process, passengers are tugged, pulled, and hauled to buses and not allowed to make their own travelling choices.
For this reason alone, many family and friends will never take visitors to stores in Georgetown when visiting Guyana.
Only a few days ago I asked a good friend of mine from Canada who visited Guyana for two weeks how was her trip there and asked how she enjoyed it.
She told me her family took her only to restricted places where they feel comfortable such as the zoo and seawall during daylight.
She said she will never go back because she wanted to see Georgetown and some countryside areas.
She said he family told her they are not only afraid of taking her in the Georgetown area but are ashamed of what goes on there too by these very touts who had robbed them before.
Some of them are not mini-bus touts but in fact are criminals who rob the unsuspecting and get away with it.
Most people do not report when their wallets and purses are picked simply because nothing will come of it.
They resign themselves to the mere fact that they would not get back what they lost to these criminals, so it’s a complete waste of time reporting to the police.
This simply goes to show that thugs are more powerful than the law and the police force, since the police and the laws fail to stop lawlessness.
If the law really wants to stamp out what they call touts then the law can very well do it if they so choose, but no, they do not want to.
The law will wait until one so-caled tout is caught robbing an innocent person or feeling up an innocent woman who might take the law into their own hands and do something real bad.
The cries will be very much different then.
