AND yet another example of the hypocrisy of the Alliance For Change (AFC) party; this time emanating from the person of prominent Berbice attorney, Charrandass Persaud, who according to a report in one of the daily media, uttered what were definitely disparaging remarks pertaining to the physical person of the superintendent of the New Amsterdam Hospital, Dr Vishayla Sharma. The remarks are absolutely not only of the worst of any that can be made against a female, but it is also sexist as well. Conclusively, it is thoroughly disrespectful not only against Dr Sharma, but towards all women.
The shocking and contradictory aspects of such an attack, is that it originates from a very high- profile member of a political party that has preached ever so often about human rights in general, and upholding the rights of women.
Much to the party’s credit, it has immediately distanced itself from such dastardly remarks in the form of an unconditional apology on its behalf from chairperson, Mr. Nigel Hughes.
Attorneys are among the least from whom such a demeaning statement can be expected. But again, it is a reflection of the moral calibre of membership that comprises the core of the AFC.
First, it was a high- profile member who had been reported on in the press as having committed acts of impropriety in the Corentyne locale. Next, it was a high- profile MP, who was exposed as a liar, for denying that he did not support the Presidents Pension Bill; as well as his deception as having accepted huge sums as retention fees for NICIL, but publicly vilifying the latter institution and its head on corruption accusations.
How can such a party continue to have within its ranks, members whose integrity are riddled? Moreso, those like Charrandass who are disregarding of our sisters? One hopes that he receives the full wrath of all the female organisations in Guyana.
