Regional Chairman for Region 1 (Barima/Waini), Mr. Paul Pierre, last Saturday announced that Project Design and Construction Incorporated has been awarded the $60M contract for the construction of internal roads in the Port Kaituma area. He made this disclosure in an interview with the Guyana Chronicle, following the opening ceremony of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Limited Port Kaituma branch
According to Pierre, contractors are currently mobilizing and the construction of the asphalt roads is expected to begin shortly.
In his address at GBTI’s opening ceremony, he pointed out that while there have been vast developments in the region in areas such as education, health, and infrastructure, the roads have been one of the more challenging concerns of residents.
Pierre stated that while there have been challenges in the region in terms of roads, there have been improvements because the region now has more than 300 miles of roadway.
He noted that the region has over the years seen vast infrastructural developments such as the establishment of more schools and health centres.
He added that more nurses, doctors, health workers and teachers in the region are also being trained.
He affirmed that government and the private sector will continue to work towards the development of the region, and assured that they are also working at the regional administrative level.
He indicated that the road ahead will be very challenging but they are all prepared to work towards the development of the region.
