Three-year old dies after being struck by motor cycle

A three-year old girl of 180, Sixth Street Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara died after being struck by a motor cycle on Friday just in front of her home. Dead is Saleena Shakieal who succumbed to her injuries at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH).
Her mother, Yashwantie Kallap was also struck by the motor cycle but suffered minor injuries.
The motor cyclist fled the scene after he struck the woman and her daughter but turned himself into the police at Leonora Police Station accompanied by his lawyer.
Detailing her experience, Ms. Kallap, 29, told the Guyana Chronicle that about 17:30 hours Friday she and her daughter were standing at the back of a parked truck that sells groceries when a speeding, out of control motor cycle struck them both.
She stated that upon impact her daughter was pitched under the parked Canter truck and she almost fell and when she pulled the child out from under the truck she was unconscious and unresponsive and bleeding from several injuries to the body.
She was rushed to the WDRH where she succumbed sometime after as doctors tried desperately to save her but relatives said she received severe injuries as a result of the accident.
Kallap explained that after the impact the motor cyclist asked her “how many people died” and got up and walked off the scene leaving his motor cycle behind.
The grieving woman said that the motor cyclist was apparently heavily intoxicated and is no stranger to them since his mother resides a few houses away and he lives just at the other section of the street.
Kallap added that she was at the time making a purchase of potatoes,
The mother of three stated that she received injuries but was treated and sent away but her daughter was not so lucky since he had severe internal injuries.
Investigations revealed that the driver of the motor cycle had indeed fled the scene but the motor cycle is in the possession of the police.
