THE Petra/Milo Under-20 Schools Football Competition’s quarterfinal round will be contested this weekend at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground as the final day for the event draws near.
Today, the first two quarterfinal matches will take place – the first between Carmel Secondary and Chase’s Academy, kicking off at 13:00hrs. The other showdown will kick off at 15:00hrs as Charlestown Secondary oppose St. George’s Secondary.
Tomorrow at the same times, the MOE ground will host the other two quarterfinal matches. In the curtain-raiser of the double-header, South Ruimveldt battle Richard Ishmael then Bishops’ High tackle Tucville Secondary.
The winners of the two matches today will advance to the semifinal round to play each other while the two victors from Sunday’s games face each other in the other semifinal match. The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, March 20 with the grand final on Sunday, March 24.
Last weekend, Tucville, South Ruimveldt and Charlestown Secondary bulldozed their way to the quarterfinal round.
On Sunday Tucville sank North Ruimveldt 3-0 with goals from Shawn Hughes (18th), Roland Mayers (37th) and Darwayne Filtha (70th).
After that South Ruimveldt thrashed North Georgetown 8-1 as Martin Adams (16th, 35th and 78th) led with a hat-trick. He received support from Keith Caines (62nd, 64th), David George (36th), Shaquan Simon (67th) and Colin Peters (76th). The opposition’s consolation goal was scored by Tiatun Tiatun in the 73rd minute.
In the other game on Sunday, Bishops’ High got past Dolphin Secondary 2–1.
Saturday’s programme saw Charlestown demolish Tutorial High 6–1 as doubles from Shane Morris (47th, 54th) and Brian Price (22nd, 36th) along with a goal each from Collin Best (15th) and Arudy Bransford (70th) overshadowed the lone goal scored by the opposition’s Steven Stanton (61st).
Carmel Academy had the last say in their match with Lodge Secondary as they won 3-2 while Chase’s Academy needled New Campbellville.
