MINISTER of Home Affairs, Mr. Clement Rohee, last Sunday commissioned the Tain Recreational Park, at Port Mourant, Berbice, which has provided the community with an additional facility for recreational use by residents, particularly the youths. At the function, the minister remarked that the project is important because it means something not only for the youths but the sugar workers.
It is a way of giving back for the benefit of their children and grandchildren, he said, encouraging residents to make maximum use of it, not only for mainstream sports and challenged them to find creative ways for other uses.
Pointing to many other initiatives, Rohee said the park is a good example to demonstrate what government has been putting in place for the young people. It is one of the many avenues of creating opportunities for them in their leisure time.
He assured that government will continue to provide the resources and establish programmes that would enhance positive developments in Guyana.
The Tain Recreational Park is a Ministry of Home Affairs, Citizens Security Programme Rapid Impact Project among other small-scale community projects aimed at providing additional opportunities to residents and enhancing cohesiveness and safer neighbourhoods.
He announced that in the 10 communities targeted under the CSP, there are 25 such schemes and they vary from multi-purpose centres, to libraries and computer laboratories, all identified by the communities.
Also speaking at the commissioning was Regional Member of Parliament, Mr. Faizal Jafarally, who observed that over the years, government has been working with a number of stakeholders to ensure that the energy of young people are put to beneficial use.
He cited a number of educational and recreational facilities that have been established in the area, from which young people are benefiting tremendously.
