The National Communications Network Inc NCN has announced that the media giant will be kicking into gear as it gets ready to offer its viewers more international football tournaments, namely the Barclay’s Premier League and the Union of Europe Football Associations, UEFA.
The announcement was made by Chief Executive Officer of the company Michael Gordon. The CEO was at the time speaking during an invited comment by NCN sport in the compound of the National Communications Network Inc on Homestretch Ave. in Georgetown.
Gordon said that the move is a reorganisation by the management of the company that it needs to continue assuring the public that it provides a service and as such the company through its radio and television will bring the programmes which it knows the public is interested in.
He added that it’s no secret that football is the most popular sport game in the world and the number of local followers of international football matches. The CEO stated that NCN is always guarded about what they bring to the public.
Gordon who has been heading the operations of NCN for just under a year told the NCN sport that “management recognizes that football is the most popular sport across the world and as the National Broadcaster we recognize that football is extremely popular in Guyana and we know of the popularity of the various leagues across Europe including UEFA.
“As such the company has taken a conscious decision of bringing some of those matches on a more regular and fixed basis to members of the public”, Gordon added.
Meanwhile, as the company seeks to make the games available to the public on its own, there is still an open invitation for corporate Guyana to invest their monies in an initiative which is viewed as very economical and rewarding.
Michael Gordon said that the company is hoping that corporate Guyana and advertisers can come on board and assist with fees attached to bringing the games.
However, he was clear in pointing out that the move is a NCN move and should sponsors come on board or not, the company will keep its promise to the Guyanese people and the mandate will be fulfilled.
The National Communications Network (NCN) will be airing the Union of Europe Football Associations champions’ league from March 02 and will continue with the Barclay’s Premier League every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday thereafter. (Leroy Smith)
