Baby drowns in bucket of water – Mother and sister panicked, puts child on bed instead of rushing to hospital

The little life of a one-year old, Ackeem Peters was snuffed out yesterday when he reportedly drowned in a five-gallon bucket filled with water and which was in the kitchen of his parents one bedroom-shack at lot 167 Pike Street Kitty.

altThe Guyana Chronicle was informed that the child was left alone at home with his 14-year old aunt and six-year old brother.
It was stated that the aunt of the child made him some porridge and them took him with her to take a nap
. A teen uncle of the now dead child told this publication that while the two were sleeping the six-year old went outside for a while and when he returned he noticed that his little brother was head down in a bucket of water.
The six-year old then began crying and went to the older person in the house. The 14-year old whose name was given as Alexander told relatives that after being awakened by the six-year old she rushed to the kitchen and made the discovery.
Based on information received, the 14-year old took the child out of the water and wrapped him in a sheet and placed him on the bed.
The child’s mother was then contacted. According to the father of the child, Hanif Ackeem Peters when the incident occurred, neither he nor his child’s mother was at home.alt
The man said that he had left the home for the market to purchase a few things to cook. According to him as he was on his way back he got a call informing him that his son drowned and that he needed to get home as early as possible.
The senior Peters said the mother of his child left the home to visit the relatives of two other children she has. According to the man the woman made the visit to offer her sympathy as the grandmother of the two other children passed away. She also received a call informing her of the tragic news.
Yesterday afternoon while speaking to the Guyana Chronicle at the Kitty Police Station the older Peters said the death of his son now makes him feel as a blind man since it is his only son. The man said that he is trying really hard to come to grips with the death.
He also said that when the mother of the child arrived home and saw the child she and her 14 -year old sister panicked and just rolled the altchild over and left him there.
There was no attempt on their part to take the child to the hospital. He said that the child’s mother or the sister were aware the child was already dead when he was pulled from the bucket.
The father said that when he came home he realised that his son was already dead and just decided to leave him there until the police came and conducted their investigation.
Yesterday when the Guyana Chronicle visited the home there were several other small children who were identified as children of the same woman who lost her youngest son. There were two buckets in the kitchen including the one which the teen drowned in.
