UG to launch YouTube channel soon : – to showcase talent of students at Turkeyen and Tain Campuses

The University of Guyana (UG) will soon be launching a YouTube channel which will be used to showcase the talents of students across the Turkeyen and Tain Campuses. During a telephone interview with the Guyana Chronicle last Monday, UG Public Relations Officer (PRO),  Ms. Paulette Paul said that the videos  posted on this channel will not only feature students who are talented in the fields of song, dance and the spoken word, but athletes as well.
She noted that while conducting interviews for the You Tube channel (You Tube is a video-sharing website), many students expressed the need for more outlets to showcase their talents.
According to Paul, the idea of UG’s now annual Talent Splash event emanated from these views. Talent Splash is a new element to the university’s annual Career/Open Day activity which was held last Friday.
She stressed that the event was not a competition, but rather an opportunity for students of the university to showcase their talents.
She said that it was well received, noting that the entire George Walcott Lecture Theatre (GWLT), where it was held, was packed.
“I was blown away by the wealth of talent we have at the university,” Paul remarked.
She added that there were two auditions prior to the Talent Splash on Friday, where a variety of talents were displayed in the form of the spoken word and  song and dance in many genres.
She further noted that there were some performances by a few well-known local groups such as Collage, the Whaul Sisters and Keep Your Day Job. However, she said that some less-known but very talented students also took advantage of the opportunity to bring their talents to the fore. For this, she said, they were all very grateful to be given the opportunity.
