MURDER accused Calvin Thomas called Calvin Bailey will have to face a retrial, for the alleged killing of his 14-month old son, after the Demerara Assizes jury disagreed on a verdict last week Friday.
Until then, Judge Navindra Singh remanded the man to prison on the indictment that he killed Shaquin Nathaniel Nero.
The Prosecution, conducted by State Counsel Konyo Thompson and D. Singh, had led evidence to show that, prior to the boy being murdered, there was a quarrel between his mother and father after the former threatened to leave their home, at Amelia’s Ward, Wismar, Linden, taking the infant without the permission of the accused.
One Prosecution witness said the woman was standing with the child in her arms when the accused cut its throat and wounded her on the head.
The Defence, led by lawyer George Thomas, claimed that the trouble started after the mother decided to move out with the child.
The Defence alleged that the father was holding the child when the mother attacked him with a knife and injured the infant accidentally.
