Concerned citizens of New Amsterdam have formed a promotional group to assist in the restoration of the town and they are endeavoring to rejuvenate it to be the place they once knew.
The group, under the name Kiacalance Promotions, has outlined a number of activities which would include participation by citizens from all walks of life and would also see the involvement of the town’s business community.
Speaking with this newspaper, chairman of the group Mr. Ryan Alexander outlined aspects of the group’s involvement in the 2013 Mashramani celebrations.
Alexander, a businessman in the town, indicated that this group which has no political affiliation has come onboard to develop the town and create meaningful entertainment for the citizens and business community.
He highlighted activities commencing with the environmental day exercise in which all the schools in New Amsterdam will be engaged in cleaning their immediate surroundings.
February 22 cultural extravaganza
Moreover, there will be an ‘Old Kia Nite’ on the 22nd February where citizens will form groups and will assemble at two points in the town and sing and dance to folk music. They will merge at the Matthew Allen Road and together move to the New Amsterdam Stelling area where a massive cultural extravaganza is expected.
On the following day, 23rd February, the schools of the town and the business community will be engaged in a float parade through the main streets and conclude at the Matthew Allen Road.
Kiacalance would also promote the children’s costume competition in a performance that will showcase their talent.
Alexander stated that after viewing the event held at the Albion Community Centre, he noted that much young talent was showcased and those who were unable to attend should get another viewing opportunity.
Other members of the committee are designer Ms. Carol Fraser, Manageress Mrs. Avia Lindie, Mr. Christopher Holder, and Mr. Andre Ramotar.
