Dubbed ‘Community Connect’, it is a public outreach initiative through which customers can interact with GWI officials in order to have their problems resolved.
A similar interaction was previously held in December 2012 at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo and in several communities along Essequibo Coast.
GWI Public Relations Officer, Mr.Timothy Austin said the utility is encouraging customers in Charlestown and Albouystown to take advantage of the February 8 occasion.
“Customers who are busy during the week and unable to contact our call centre or visit our branch offices should take advantage of Community Connect,” he encouraged.
Austin added: “We are aware that customers of Charlestown and Albouystown have issues with the sanitation system and their water quality. This is the ideal forum for them to voice all their concerns as our teams will be present to respond.
TRANSPARENT UTILITY
“GWI is a transparent utility and we encourage customers to make known all the challenges they encounter with GWI’s services so that these may be resolved.”
‘Community Connect’ will include vital information for Charlestown/Albouystown customers about planned service upgrades as well as the Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme (GSIP) which will minimise the instances of sewerage overflows experienced by customers in both communities.
The public outreach will also address its overarching public education strategy which includes a national school education programme, ‘H2O Kidz ‘n’ Action’ and a series of public service announcements which will highlight matters of water conservation, metering, illegal connections, customer service and billing.
