False pretence charges surround sale of Soesdyke/Linden Highway land

JOSEPH Stewart (no address given) appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry Friday on charges of obtaining under false pretence.

Particulars of one offence said, between August 9 and September 22, 2012, at Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, with intent to defraud, he obtained $320,000 from Sharron Barnwell, by falsely pretending that he was the owner of a plot of land, situated at Lot 215 Kuru Kururu along the same highway, knowing it to be false.
Another charge against the defendant said, on August 14, 2012, with intent to defraud, he obtained $120,000 from Merlyn Handy, by falsely pretending that he was the owner of a plot of land situated at Well Road, Kuru Kururu, knowing it to be false.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges and was granted a total of $250,000 bail until February 4.
