Region 2 schools Mash competitions get under way

THE Department of Education children’ competition of Mash celebrations in Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) kicked off on Monday and involves nursery, primary and secondary schools students. Speaking at the opening of the competition Monday morning at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground district Education Officer, Ms. Lorraine English said the competition will focus on the theme for Mash – Reflecting Creativity Embracing Diversity. She said the competition continued on Wednesday and concluded on Friday. English who declared the competition open said winners will represent the Region at the National Competition in Georgetown.

The competition got on its way with children from nursery schools competing with each other in dramatic poetry and calypso categories. Reliance Nursery won the dramatic poetry with their piece entitled
“Guyanese Teacher” while Abram Zuil came in second with “Our Anniversary”, Hampton Court Nursery was third with
“I am Guyanese”.

In the Nursery Calypso Competition Anna Regina Nursery won first place with “Black out” and Kabakbaburi with Don’t Drink and Drive with second place. In the dramatic poetry 8-10 group C.V Nunes Primary won first place with “Shattered dream” while Suddie Primary won secondary place with “Reflection” and Aurora in third place with “Loyality of a Guyanese soilder”.

In the Calypso 8-10 group Queenstown Primary took the first prize with “One Guyanese family” second place winner was Charity with “Free Education to improve the Nation”.

In the dramatic poetry 11-13 group Taymouth Manor Primary took the first prize with “Guyana so Happy and free” while Anna Regina Secondary came in secondary with “Now and Then”.
In the 14-17 group Abram Zuil Secondary took the first prize with “ABE Guyana” Anna Regina Secondary was second with “Census” and Johanna Cecila third place.

In the calypso 14-17 group Cotton Field Secondary School took the first place with “People I cant understand what is going on everyday i open the newspaper”, Aurora Secondary came in second with “Cultural Diversity” and in the third position was Charity  School. On Wednesday the competition continued with dancing and masquerade at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground. Hundreds of students attended and cheered to the various performances as they hotly contested for top positions.
