Gov’t committed to honouring undertakings in Region 10 agreement- HPS

HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon, at his post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the President, Wednesday, reiterated government’s commitment to honouring the undertakings outlined in its formal agreement with the Region 10 administration. The HPS said that the deliberate misinformation that is being peddled in the Linden community, and in certain sections of the media, regarding government’s stance on this agreement, has not gone unnoticed.
As it currently stands, both parties are engaged in negotiations on re-establishing the functioning of the technical committee as well as the appointment of a chairperson to the economic committee.
At present, neither the economic committee nor the technical committee is properly constituted. In the case of the former, the chairperson tendered his resignation, while in the latter, both parties cannot seem to agree on a chairperson.
However, both sides continue to exchange nominees for the positions of chairpersons of the two committees.
The HPS said, “What has evolved and generated some degree of optimism is that both sides have actually now identified no more than two non-objectionable for both chairpersons.” (GINA)
