JUSTICE Navindra Singh and a mixed jury at the Demerara Assizes in the Good Hope murder trial yesterday heard a sad story about how a man named Gopaul Singh, called ‘Porridge’, was killed at a wedding house celebrations in 2007. Policeman Heranjan Deonarine, who instituted the charge against Chandrapaul Chatteram, also called ‘Buckman’, said that the deceased was drunk and was making jokes with his friends when Chatteram intervened and struck him with a beer bottle.
Detective Constable Deonarine, who testified that he was at the wedding house when he saw the accused hit out at Singh with the beer bottle said, that he was about to apprehend the accused that night, September 14, 2007, at Fourth Street, Beter Hope, East Coast Demerara, when the accused made good his escape.
Prosecuting in the case are Mrs. Konyo Thompson and Miss Dhanika Singh.
The hearing continues on Monday.
