GUYANA Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) customers in the Catherine Village area, were left without Internet service on Monday evening, as a result of a vehicular accident at Airy Hall, Mahaicony, also on the East Coast of Demerara, which damaged a utility pole and burnt the attached cable. A GT&T press release said the damage also affected the Suriname/Guyana terrestrial link but that service was restored at 10:51 hrs yesterday and the Internet at 11:57 hrs.
The company’s operations continue to be affected by acts of vandalism, careless excavation and, as in the Monday case, accidents involving motor vehicles.
At a recent press conference, GT&T’s Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Sonita Jagan highlighted the negative effect of vandalism and appealed for public involvement in protecting the facilities that are installed to serve Guyana.
