One dead in gold row; another hospitalised

AS the gold rush continues and criminal activities in the interior location remain an issue, another interior killing has been recorded. Dead is David John, 22 years of Port Kaituma in the North West District. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at Konawaruk, Mahdia.

Reports reaching this newspaper stated that David John and his friend, Andre Wallace 32, another miner, were reportedly attacked by a group of men.

Wallace was also injured in the attack and had to be hospitalised. He is said to be a resident of Timehri Squatting Area on the East Bank Demerara.

The dead man and the now hospitalised one were accused by the group of men of stealing a quantity of raw gold.

It was reported that the two men who were confronted by the gang about the gold larceny denied the claims and an argument ensued. The two men were then attacked by the group.

It was as a result of the fight that caused the 22-year old to be killed and the police are said to be investigating the matter. Meanwhile, Wallace has been admitted a patient at the Mahdia Hospital. The police have not yet been able to arrest anyone in connection with the crime.
