DISTRIBUTION giant Ansa McAl Limited yesterday handed over to the relevant authority the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, which was done at a cost of $3M thanks to a promotion by the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation during their 2011/12 Football tournament. The promotion ‘Stag Crown Your Community” saw selective Stag bars throughout Guyana asking fans to fill the boxes at the location with Stag Beer crowns and in the end it was Chicken Bar of Linden who emerged as the ‘spot’ that accumulated the most crowns and was adjudged the winners.
“We, at Ansa McAl, have been doing promotions to help individuals but what we realised is that we wanted to target a community,” said Darshnie Yusuf, Ansa McAl Tradings Public Relations Officer.
“The Mackenzie Sports Club is home to major activities in Linden and we are extremely happy to contribute towards the development of this facility through the Stag Crown Your Community Promotion” while adding that “this is not the end since Ansa McAl would be giving the MSC a John Deere tractor which will go towards maintaining the field. Sorry it could not have been here today, but it should be arriving in the next two weeks or so”.
According to Yusuf, “Ansa McAl don’t go into a community to see what they can get from it, but rather what we can offer as it relates to the development of that area or community; so today, we’re more than happy to see something that we’re doing, benefiting the entire Linden.”
Leon (Junior) Barrett, vice-president of the MSC, lauded Ansa McAl for adding the longevity of the over-50-year-old facility and stated that despite setbacks which were encountered during the month-long protest last year, he’s happy to see the near-completion of the ground that serves all major sporting and non-sporting activities in Linden.
“It is a pleasure to receive the ground in a much better condition,” said Barrett.”We had wanted this to happen for years. We approached several corporate sponsors but we were unable to get the ground resurfaced but Ansa McAl made it possible and for that we are very thankful”.
Being chosen as the facility to be renovated from the “Crown Your Community Promotion, the MSC executives could have done anything with the money, including fixing the seating accommodation, but instead chose to resurface their ground, with Barrett adding, “We chose to resurface the ground because it is the most important aspect of the facility not only will it be more suitable for football but it will be better for cricket, hockey and track and field.
This is not the first time that Ansa McAl Trading is adding to the enhancement of the MSC ground. Last year, the company handed over the James Brushe dressing room and toilet at the basketball court and Barrett said that the interest shown to the MSC ground is tantamount to their interest in the Linden community.
