Robbery defendant with other similar charges pending remanded

OMALO Williams (no address given) was remanded to prison, by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, yesterday, on charges of simple larceny and robbery with violence. Particulars of one charge alleged that, on November 30, he robbed Khemran Ramnarine of one cell phone, valued $25,000 and, at the time of the robbery, made use of personal violence on the victim.
Details of the other offence said, on December 17, he stole one gold chain worth $200,000, property of Debra Johnson.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to both offences but Police Corporal Vinetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully opposed bail for Williams, pointing out that he has similar cases pending in another court and it is likely that he will commit other crimes if granted pre-trial freedom.
Consequently, Williams will have to remain incarcerated until January 18, 2013.
