THE Civil Defence Commission (CDC), with strong support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has concluded disaster risk management (DRM) training in six of the ten Administrative Regions of Guyana.
A press release, issued by the CDC yesterday said: “The Civil Defence Commission has now satisfied its commitment to the Ministry of Local Government to deliver DRM training to Regions 1, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 10 before the end of 2012.”
The release said, as a result of this training, 412 persons from the respective Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs) were trained as part of the agreement between the CDC and the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development.
It explained that, apart from the capacity building workshops, the CDC also contributed to the Regions’ preparedness with the handing over items of the emergency tool kit (maps, charts etc.) and emergency boxes to the Regional Administrations.
“These items of the tool kit will be used during the activation and operation of the Regional Emergency Operations Centre (REOC) whenever the needs arise,” the release stated.
It stated, further, that the CDC continues to extend its mandate of DRM across Guyana and, in 2013, similar training will be done with representatives from Regions 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), 5 (Mahaica/Berbice), 8 (Potaro/Siparuni) and 9 (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo.)
That will signal the successful deliverance of DRM training in all ten Administrative Regions of Guyana, the statement added.
