COMMANDER of Police ‘C’ Division, Assistant Commissioner Eric Bassant said yesterday, that, there has been no further development in the investigations of the May 3 murder of Diamond taxi driver Rajendra Puran.
But the probe is still active and sleuths are hoping for a breakthrough, he said.
In a previous interview, Deputy Commissioner (Law Enforcement), Seelall Persaud told the Guyana Chronicle that, although a bulletin was issued for a suspect wanted for questioning in the case, no one was charged but several persons were questioned and released.
He said the police are following several leads which may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
Puran, 40, of Lot 1296 Section C, Block Y, Diamond, East Bank Demerara, was found in a drain outside Lot 71 Red Road, Logwood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
A May 4 post-mortem revealed that he died of manual strangulation and blunt trauma to the head and detectives who visited the scene speculated that death might have been the result of a robbery/hijacking elsewhere and the victim dumped at the Enmore location.
His white Toyota Raum, HB 9875 is yet to be located.
