PROFESSIONAL Youth Alliance Guyana (PYAGuy) hosted its Second Anniversary and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at its Barr Street, Kitty location, where the organisation, which has grown from strength to strength over the last two years, honoured its most dedicated volunteers and presented certificates to persons who would have attended one or more of its development workshops.
Sixteen volunteers were presented with certificates for their enthusiasm and commitment to PYAGuy, and some 15 received certificates for their participation in Personal Development, Professional Development and Financial Development seminars.
Volunteer Ms. Teisha Milner was named Volunteer of the Year 2011-2012 for her excellent support of, and faithfulness to, the organisation.
Unlike any other organisation, PYAGuy is an organisation for young people that is run by young people. The organisation was founded out of a youth project, and has been influenced by a Master of Arts practicum executed by Eon Stephens, Founder and CEO of PYAGuy.
The organisation was created to facilitate training, consultations, community outreach activities, service to young professionals and youth organisations, and to network between youth leaders and organisations. To date, the group has worked with young people in Regions 2, 3 and 4.
In November, the organisation donated back to school packages to various school children as part of its support of early childhood development. In observance of World AIDS Day in December, the group hosted an exhibition outside of its office on Barr Street, Kitty, and held an awareness session for young people from the St. Winefride’s Secondary School.
Professional development is key on the organisations agenda. Accordingly, many of its programmes are executed with this in mind.
