MASON Toney Garnette (no address given) appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at Sparendaam Court, last Friday, charged with unlawful wounding.
It was alleged that, on Monday, December 3, at Sophia, Greater Georgetown, he unlawfully wounded Royston Small, whom he claimed to be a neighbourhood vagrant of unsound mind but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Attorney-at-law, Mr. Melvin Duke, who represented the defendant, told the court that Garnette was forced to defend himself after being attacked by Small.
However, Small’s grandmother (no name stated) maintained that her grandson is, usually, a peaceful person and would only demonstrate hostile capabilities if provoked.
She suggested that, if the accusation by the defendant holds any merit, then it may more than likely be a case where her grandson simply retaliated against some form of provocation by Garnette.
The elderly woman then requested that she be compensated for all medical expenses, in the sum of $15,000.
The required compensation was agreed by both parties and the magistrate made an order for it and dismissed the case.
