Police Force intensifies presence on city streets during festive season

WITH shopping for the Christmas season starting as early as November the Guyana Police Force is taking no chances at ensuring that Guyanese and visitors, alike, are safe and comfortable while they check out items in the city.

altIn looking at enforcements to ensure that the holidays are well spent, safe and comfortable, Assistant Commissioner of Police, and Traffic Officer, Brian Joseph, who did a walk about in the city to check on the situation noted that as expected with the holiday season, there will be an increase in road traffic as such systems have been put in place to limit the congestion in Georgetown and accidents on the roads throughout the country.
He pointed out that in the city there are no new car parks but a lot of new buildings are going up, nevertheless it is hoped that the systems set up will work. Thus far the Police Officers have been monitoring the systems and from indications they are working. Some of the systems may have to be changed due to the increase in traffic.

One of the systems established is that the direction of the buses at the Plaisance and UG parks has changed to allow those vehicles to drive north on Hinck Street and East into Robb Street. At the Mahaica park where the buses usually travel east on Hinck Street, they are now going west into Water street.
Joseph stated that after speaking to some of the bus drivers in that area they have indicated that the change has reduced the traffic congestion.
