ATTORNEY-at-law Charles Ramson Jr. yesterday launched his online business at Duke Lodge, Kingston, Georgetown.
He described it as Guyana’s first online marketing service, and said it offers buying and selling services for anything at anytime and in any place.
Ramson told a press conference that the website Buymygy.com is an online or virtual market service that is very similar to ebay (without the auctioning capabilities), or private listings in amazon, “or what I’ve coined classified ads on steroids”.
He said that, simply for the sake of clarification, Buymygy.com is not the seller of any product or item, but is a website where any person, trader, business, and/or company can list any or all of their items for sale, whether new or used. The listing prices for the items start from as low as $500 per item per month… which works out to about $16 per day.
Ramson added that Buymygy.com currently has the capacity to list hundreds of thousands of items with pictures and details. The listing possibilities of both new and used items are almost endless. For example, real estate, cars, trucks, rims, tyres, cell phones, TVs, furniture, refrigerators, household goods and appliances, hardware items, jewellery, machinery, mining equipment, concert tickets, gift cards, vouchers, and a whole lot more can be listed on the website.
The website offers the additional features of filters and searches which are standard on all modern international websites, he stated.
He noted that it works very simply, saying that, in fact, it’s as easy as one two three:
Step one: take a picture or pictures of the item you want to list
Step two: send that picture with details via email to sell@buymygy.com or BBM 27D 67134 (this could be done with any smart phone or camera).
Step three: visit the office to pay (or send credit to the mobile number of the office)
THAT’S IT! The office takes care of the rest.
As for pricing, Ramson said that Buymygy.com pricing model is high volume low price, “and that’s why we can boast that prices for individual listings start as low as $500 per item per month,” he said.
Listing prices per item per month (based on selling price of item):
$500: $0 – $10,000
$1000: $10,000 – $99,999
$1500: $100,000 – $499,999
$2000: $500,000 – $1,000,000)
Businesses/Traders/Companies:
$10,000 : 15 items
$15,000: 25 items
$20,000: 35 items
$25,000: 45 items
$30,000: 55 items
He said the benefits are that of the true and main shopping website. And today, the Internet is not only about computers…. It’s also about mobile phones. So, essentially, everyone everywhere has, or can have, access.
Ramson said it now means that sellers and buyers across Guyana can be more connected. Sellers will now be accessible to buyers, and vice versa, regardless of whether they are in Essequibo, Demerara, or Berbice.
He added that it also means that persons with a normal 9-to-5 job won’t have to rush out from work to go searching from store to store to find that exact item they were looking for, or endure the frustration of heavy traffic during that search. The buyer can locate the item at their convenience, whether at work or at home.
Also, for those businesses, companies or traders that don’t have the time, resources, skills or inclination to create, market, operate, and update a website, Buymygy.com offers a package which is by far cheaper and more convenient.
Many businesses have for sale many different items which many buyers are unaware they offer at the prices they do; and Buymygy.com can solve that problem, he said.
Ramson explained that with increased Internet accessibility, affordability, celerity and mobility; and with the One Laptop Per Family programme, “we believe that the circumstances are drastically different now. The Internet is here to stay, and there is no question of its benefit. Businesses, traders, and companies that ignore or neglect the Internet do so at their peril.
Ramson said, “Citizens constantly ask governments and politicians about jobs… Where are the jobs? But most economists would tell you that, in a market economy or at least a market-oriented economy, the easiest way to increase wealth is not by getting a job, but by trading. Buymygy.com makes this trading process easy, more comprehensive, and more accessible to everyone. Buymygy.com facilitates and improves the symbiotic relationship between sellers and buyers. Sellers get to connect more with buyers, and buyers (consumers) can be offered a wider variety of items, and are able to compare prices almost instantaneously.”
He noted that, incidentally, he thinks there is room for a new business model, especially for new or young entrepreneurs; and since Buymygy.com removes most of the cost of access to market — that is, expenses that would normally be part of the rudimentary business start-up and operational costs e.g. rent, utilities, office, staffing, expensive branding, advertising etc. — a new business model can be created.
Ramson noted this venture as a business model that allows sellers to connect directly with buyers, where the aforementioned rudimentary expenses can now be obviated from the pricing equation, thereby allowing consumers to get the best prices. In addition, those entrepreneurs can now compete in niche markets for specific items with the “big boys”, or big, established businesses that have those quotidian expenses but can drive down unit prices simply because of scale.
He pointed out that the vision for Buymygy.com can be broken down into 3 guiding principles:
Customer obsession – our main focus will be on providing quality customer service
Innovation – our business model will constantly be innovating and evolving with the passage of time, experimentation, feedback, research and analysis
Long term – our intention is to take a long-term view of the market
He said the roll-out of Buymygy.com will be phased: “This is the first phase where we launch today, and on Monday, 10th Dec, 2012, we open our office, located at 87F Albert St (between First and Lamaha Streets) Alberttown, Georgetown (telephone numbers 225-7729/226-7729) and begin uploading and advertising. The second phase will be the introduction of ecommerce, eg: Paypal and credit cards and a more advanced mobile payment.
“The third phase will be introduction of a low datamobile version of the website; and finally, the creation of an app for easier use on phones and mobile devices.
“Before I conclude, I must say that this process of establishing this company and website has been one of the most exhausting experiences of my life. I have to say that it has also been one of the most exciting and satisfying experiences of my life; and for it all, I would like to thank God, my parents, my sister who is not here but helped me considerably, my friends and, of course, my partner, co-owner and manager — Alana Seebarran.”
