CANADA-based Uitvlugt Community Development Group last Saturday made its annual presentation of monetary awards and certificates to students of Uitvlugt Primary School on the West Coast Demerara who excelled at the National grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examination. The presentations were made by the Group’s local representatives Chamanlall Naipaul, Assistant Editor of Guyana Chronicle and Fazeel Rafeek, popular local businessman.
The representatives congratulated the students on their outstanding performance and urged them to use it as a first step in the long journey of academic success.
They also implored the students to use the monetary awards wisely and in pursuance of their studies.
The recipients of the awards were: Matela Selmon, Quessi Watermon, Bibi Narreefa Bassier, Francia Nedd, Tanavia Anderson, Alleyha Gaindalall and Arun Persaud.
The Uitvlugt Community Development Group was formed several years by a group of former residents of Uitvlugt and former students of Uitvlugt Primary School in their quest to give back to the school.
Apart from the awards to the students the Group over the years has made donations of equipment and stationary supplies.
The group raises its funds through an annual fund raising dinner.
