FINAL-year students of the Social Work degree programme embarked on completing the B Field, Sophia-Pattensen Road and to work with the Sparkled Youth Group as their project to end 2012. According to student Cindy Tiwari, every final year student must complete their course work which requires community practice to conduct assessment of the basic needs of a community for eight weeks.
The student stated that the founder of this group is Miss Doris Shelto, who will work along with the group of students to complete the project.
Miss Tiwari mentioned that during the eight-week period, the group was engaged in works that included helping the community’s youths with school work, which entailed subjects such as Mathematics, Composition Writing, Phonics, Sentence Construction and numeracy skills.
She told this newspaper that two aspects of Johari Windows played an intrigual part. The Johari Windows speaks about the hidden self, unknown self, open self and the blind self; and youths learnt from the Johari Windows self-esteem and building positivity. They were encouraged to stay positive, to believe in themselves, stay focused and not let their environment stigmatise or define them. (Charming Benfield)
