Police unearth 176 pieces of explosives at Karisparu : -four Brazilians arrested, one suspected to be connected to deaths of policemen Letlow and Aaron

AS the Police Force heightens its surveillance and crime fighting capabilities, ranks at Karisparu, North Pakaraimas on Saturday conducted a search at a mining camp, unearthing 176 pieces of Ibigel brand explosives. Four Brazilian nationals were arrested, one of whom is a suspect in the murder of Police Constables 19510 Marlon Letlow and 21320 Ledon Aaron, a police press release yesterday said.
The bodies of the two ranks were found at Paramakatoi, North Pakaraimas, on October 17, 2012 after they had left the Kato Police Station on patrol duties on October 14, 2012.
Meanwhile, the suspect in the murder of the two constables now found can expect to be met with the full force of the law. This was the assurance given by Commissioner of Police (Ag) Leroy Brumell, who, just the day before (Friday), assuring that the deaths were still under investigation, vowed that, “The perpetrators, when caught, will be brought to justice.”
The Top Cop was at the time, delivering his remarks at a presentation ceremony in the compound of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) where a gift of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and two satellite phones were being handed over to the police to boost crime fighting capabilities, and as an incentive to heightened performance.
The Commissioner, in expressing gratitude to the donors (the GGMC and the Gold and Diamond Miners’ Association (GDMA), commented on the problem of logistics and the sometimes rugged terrain that constrain the efforts of the ranks to access areas where searches need to be conducted. In this regard, he saw the ATV as being an asset to the work of the ranks in the remote hinterland communities.
Noting that the Commander is working assiduously, along with the GGMC and other stakeholders to improve hinterland security, the Commissioner said it would be remiss of him (the Top COP), not to mention the deaths of the two ranks – Police Constables 19510 Marlon Letlow and 21320 Ledon Aaron, killed in the gold mining interior. It was at this stage that he swore that the perpetrators of the murders, when caught would be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner, on that occasion disclosed that for the year so far, 33 murders had been committed in gold mining communities and 46 fire arms found by the police.  As of the same day, those figures have all changed. The toll for hinterland gold mining murders moved up to 34, just five hours later, with the discovery by police, of the body of a  51-year-old Brazilian national, bearing stab wounds, at his home at Eteringbang. That was around 14:00 hrs the same day.
Likewise, the figure for arms and ammunition found, on Saturday (the following day) also increased from 46, with this recent discovery of 176 pieces of Ibigel brand explosives at the virtual death trail, Karisparu, North Pakarimas. (Shirley Thomas)
