POLICE have two suspects in custody assisting with investigations into the murder of septuagenarian Mohammed Shaeed Hamid called Uncle Tulu, who was killed while going to the outhouse in his yard at Madia Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, shortly after 02:00 hrs on Sunday.
A post mortem conducted on his body, by government pathologist, Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan, revealed that death was due to shock and haemorrhage due to a gunshot injury.
The 76-year-old pensioner was wounded in his chest by the intruder who confronted him.
Hamid’s last words overheard by his wife, Nazmoon, was:”Why you all come here for? To rob we?.”
The distraught woman recalled that her husband had left the upper flat of their two-storeyed house, as customary, to go and relieve himself and seconds before he spoke she heard an explosive sound.
According to her, on hearing the explosion, she descended the stairs and called out to her husband but got no response.
“I thought that the persons had broken the light bulb as the place was dark. I saw him creeping along the ground coming towards the door.I asked him if they beat him up but there was no response. Again, I asked him if he was shot but he did not reply. I took a flashlight and flashed it on him. I saw blood and I placed my hand on his chest. I felt a wound. My finger went through about two inches,” she related.
The widow, who had been married for over 37 years, described her husband as a hard-working man who tried to provide for their every need.
She recalled that persons would repeatedly enter their yard, which has several fruit trees, from which they would sell sapodillas and other fruits weekly, to supplement their pensions.
Hamid, who will be buried at Kildonan Cemetery, Corentyne, today, leaves to mourn eight siblings.
