Permaul to lead Guyana in 2013 CT20 tourney … Sarwan and Foo make return

WEST Indies left-arm spinner and ‘A’ team skipper Veerasammy Permaul has been tasked with the responsibilities of leading Guyana’s quest for success in next year’s West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Caribbean T20 tournament which will be held from January 6 to 20 in Trinidad and Tobago and St Lucia.

West Indies middle order batsman and former captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and the hard-hitting middle order all-rounder Jonathan Foo have both made a return to the squad which has two changes from the one that played in this year’s tournament which was won by Trinidad and Tobago.
The-then Christopher Barnwell-led squad had the same composition as the present one selected by the embattled and now defunct Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), with Sewnarine Chattergoon and Dillon Heyliger making way for Sarwan and Foo.
Barnwell will perform the duties of Permaul’s deputy, while Shivnarine Chanderpaul who is known to be a useful and dependable middle order batsman, will take charge of the opening position with the pugnacious and temperamental Trevon Griffith.
Leon Johnson is currently in immaculate form with both bat and ball for Georgetown Cricket Club and, along with Sarwan, Barnwell, Narsingh Deonarine, Royston Crandon, Rajiv Ivan, Derwin Christian and Steven Jacobs, will lead Guyana’s middle order batting lineup.
Permaul, former International Cricket Council (ICC) Emerging Player-of-the-Year Devendra Bishoo, Johnson, Barnwell, Jacobs, Crandon, Ivan and Ronsford Beaton will lead Guyana’s bowling, as they seek to take another Regional T20 title, following their success in 2006 and 2010, when Guyana won the Stanford and CT20 tournaments at its inaugural stage.
West Indies middle order batsman Assad Fudadin who found it difficult to make the lineup, along with Heyliger, Paul Wintz, Keon ‘Buff and Roll’ Joseph, wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble, who can also be used as an opener, left-arm swing bowler Andre Stoll and young Shimron Hetmyer make up the standby list of players.
The team, along with the standbys, will be managed by Alvin Johnson and coached by Esaun Crandon. They will be undergoing an encampment period at the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence, LBI. They are asked to report for 16:00hrs this afternoon.
The full 14-man squad reads: Veerasammy Permaul (captain), Trevon Griffith, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Leon Johnson, Narsingh Deonarine, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Christopher Barnwell (vice-captain), Royston Crandon, Steven Jacobs, Derwin Christian, Jonathan Foo, Devendra Bishoo, Ronsford Beaton and Rajiv Ivan, with Alvin Johnson performing the duties of manager and Esaun Crandon as coach.
