KHULNA, Bangladesh (CMC) – A keen tussle appears to be developing between West Indies and Bangladesh for supremacy on the Reliance ICC ODI Championship table.
The outcome of the remaining three of the five-match one-day series would decide which of the two teams sits ahead of each other on the table.
Bangladesh, who have already won the first two matches, have an outstanding opportunity to move ahead of the West Indies into seventh position on the ODI Championship table.
The homeside’s 2-0 lead in the series already guarantees them a place ahead of New Zealand in eighth position.
However to move up one more place, they need to win the remaining three matches that will be played in Mirpur on December 5, 7 and 8. .
Wins for Bangladesh will see them jump to 87 ratings points while the West Indies will slip to 81 ratings points, two ahead of ninth-placed New Zealand.
If the West Indies bounce back and win the remaining three matches, then they will finish on 92 ratings points while Bangladesh will end on 73 ratings points, one ahead of New Zealand.
The side to top the Championship table on the April 1 cut-off date will collect a cheque for US$175 000 along with a Shield, while the team to finish second will receive a cheque for US$75 000.
