DEN Amstel Porkknockers FC are the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) 2012 Stag Beer League champions after defeating Uitvlugt Warriors on penalty kicks before a large crowd last Saturday at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground. In the third place matchup earlier in the afternoon, Pouderoyen Young Achievers upstaged Stewartville in similar fashion to secure the third place. Owen McGarrell converted in the 10th minute to send Stewartville in the lead 1-0 as the fight for possession of the ball continued.
In the 33rd minute, Dion Bradford converted against Stewartville custodian to level the score which remained unchanged at the end of the first half and at the end of regulation time, forcing a penalty shootout.
Stewartville came out successful 3-1 while Den Amstel won 4-2 on penalties.
Meanwhile, this weekend the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) will have three matches at two venues with Beterverwagting Community Centre ground coming alive on Saturday as Buxton United FC face Golden Stars FC at 14:00hrs while the feature match will see Victoria Kings battling with Plaisance.
On Sunday the lone match will be at Buxton ground where Buxton Stars will meet Mahaica Determinators at 15:30hrs.
